For those who have been having trouble with the September update for Windows Home Server causing problems with the PC Connector software, a post from pjtaylor on the Windows Home Server Forum provides a solution.
It looks like the problem is with the Connector software in the Home Server software folder as I suspected.
The solution:
- Open the software folder on your Windows Home server (\\HOME SERVER NAME\Software\Home Server Connector Software)
You should find that there are two temporary (TMP) files which are similar in size to the WHSConnector and Setup file. - Delete (or remove to a safe location if you prefer) the WHSConnector and Setup files and rename the smaller temp file as Setup.exe and the larger temp file as WHConnector.msi
- Try to reinstall the connector software from this folder and you should be back in business.

I am having the connector update problem but don’t have any .tmp files in the \\whs\software\home server connector software folder. So you may only have part of the solution.

Graham – Sounds like there is more than one problem with the update. Sorry that this hasn’t worked for you. Good luck finding a solution, if you do, please let me know so that I can share it here on Joined Up Thinking and hopefully help some more people out.
